Welcome, we're here to help!

What is Family Promise?

Founded in Summit, New Jersey in 1988, Family Promise is a National organization that comprises more than 200 Affiliates in 43 states, engaging 200,000 compassionate volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of families in need. Families with children make up 35% of the people who experience homelessness in the United States. Family homelessness is a non-partisan issue at the core of American values—the family. We all agree that every child deserves a home.  Through our innovative approach, we keep families together and serve more than 90,000 children and adults every year.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. We are the leading national nonprofit organization providing a comprehensive set of solutions to this critical issue.

We envision a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future.

What does this look like in Monroe County?

We will address the very real issue family homelessness in Monroe County cost-effectively by utilizing existing community resources. Congregations will provide space in their buildings to serve as temporary evening/overnight accommodations (each host will offer 4-5 one week stays for 3-5 families per year). The Day Center, located at Sparrow's Nest at the Abbey, will provide the location where families can take showers, receive intensive, individualized case management to include education and connection to resources that will help them overcome the hurdles that are keeping them from stability.  Transportation will be provided to get families from the host congregations to the day center and we will collaborate with the school districts to ensure that children are not shuffled between districts.

With volunteers giving their time, making meals, and sharing hospitality, family homelessness will be addressed without requiring the creation of an expensive shelter. These volunteers are the core of the program. They share food, spend the night, play with children and lend their passion and expertise to help families get back on their feet. They prove that motivated people can solve family homelessness.

Club 180

All it takes to help families in homeless situations turn their lives around 180 degrees is us!!  With only 500 community members coming together as members of Club 180, Family Promise of Monroe County will be completely funded!  Each Club 180 member simply makes a $180 annual tax deductible donation (this totals only $15 per month... that's the cost of one large pizza!!) and through that fantastic generosity, children's futures are changed in a spectacular way forever!  Thank you for your love and compassion!
